María José Alcaraz García

Doctor in Biology since 2002. Beneficiary of a pre-doctoral FPI grant (Seneca Foundation in 2003) with which she was able to carry out a stay at Northwestern University (Chicago, USA) and obtain her PhD in Biology in 2008. From 2008 to 2010 she worked as a contract researcher in charge of a project in the immunology service of the University Clinical Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia.

During the years 2011-2013 she enjoyed a support contract as a Senior Research Technician funded by the ISCIII in the same service. In 2016 she worked as a researcher in the group: Research in Epidemiology and Public Health (gi/imib/c005/2011) framed within the area 5 of epidemiology, public health and health services of the “Instituto Murciano de Investigación Biosanitaria Virgen de la Arrixaca” (IMIB-Arrixaca). He coordinated two projects funded in competitive calls (national and regional).

Since mid-2016 she has been part of the research group on “Immunology and immunotolerance in transplants and immune-based diseases “ line 2 ”Immunodeficiency, infection and immune response ’ of area 6. Immunology, microbiology and infectious diseases of the “Instituto Murciano de Investigación Sanitaria Virgen de la Arrixaca” (IMIB).

From May 2021 she worked as a researcher in the cardiovascular surgery research and development group of area 2 “Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases ’ of IMIB. She has an extensive experience of 16 years in the field of Molecular Biology, backed by 28 scientific publications in high impact journals. She is author and/or co-author of 9 book chapters.

In addition, she has collaborated in 48 research projects in public and private competitive calls. She has been Associate Professor in 5 different degrees of the Department of Genetics and Microbiology of the Faculty of Biology (University of Murcia) during the period 2016-2023, with 469 hours taught, being tutor of 7 TFGs. She has been a member of the Assessment Tribunal in 50 TFGs and TFMs of the University of Murcia. Finally, she has served as president of the COBRM Research Commission from 2018 to 2022.
